Jamal having interviewed with four Human Resources managers from area hotels, he is ready to get to work on June 27th.

Jamal Smith is another student who will be participating in this summer’s internship program. The rising senior has attended interview and resume writing workshops as well as a mock interview session. Now, having interviewed with four Human Resources managers from area hotels, he is ready to get to work on June 27th. “I told them I want to work in Housekeeping,” says Jamal. “Being clean is important, you won’t have any guests if the hotel is not clean.”
Having been at HHS for three years now, Jamal has had numerous opportunities to engage with industry representatives, whether through Groundhog Job Shadowing, Career Day, or the Junior Class Mentor Program. He feels that HHS offers opportunities “that you don’t get somewhere else, hands-on experience that’s fun to do.
In the classroom, Jamal feels that teachers are welcoming, and that the class size is a benefit: “Classes are small so teachers can get around and help everyone as much as possible.” His Algebra II teacher, Ms. Tatum, appreciates his initiative and the support he offers his peers: “He is always eager to learn new concepts, and once he has mastered them he constantly offers assistance to his classmates.”
