HOSPITALITY HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVED ITS ACCREDITATION IN NOVEMBER 2010!

Hospitality High School began the accreditation process in the fall of 2008. A representative from The Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools (MSCSS) conducted a candidacy visit to determine the school’s eligibility to enter the accreditation process. After this visit a decision was made by Middle States to grant the school candidacy status. The school then collaborated with the Commission’ staff to select which accreditation protocol it would follow.

Hospitality High School decided to use the Accreditation for Growth Protocol because of its focus on strategic planning and growth and improvement in student performance. For several months the School Improvement/Accreditation Team were engaged in the self-study process to determine the school’s compliance with the twelve Middle State Standards for Accreditation. As a result of this process two student performance objectives were developed and aligned with the school’s mission. The objectives are: (1) All students at Hospitality High School will demonstrate improved academic achievement, and (2) All students at Hospitality High School will demonstrate hospitality competency. The SIT/Accreditation Team then developed action plans to ensure that the school meets these performance objectives.

Hospitality High School hosted the Middle States Validation Team from May 11-14, 2010. The purpose of this visit was to evaluate the self-study results, meet with stakeholders, observe classes, and determine the school’s accreditation status.

MSCSS will accept comments from those with first-hand information regarding Hospitality High School’s ability to meet the Middle States Standards for Accreditation and these comments were considered in the course of the evaluation. The standards can be viewed at http://www.css-msa.org/pdfs/Standards _for_Schools_with_Indicators.pdf. All comments must be in writing, include the individual’s printed name, address, and telephone number. Anonymous comments will not be considered. Comments must be received no later than 30 days prior to the first day of the visit by the Validation Team and must be mailed to: Executive Director, Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
